LinkedIn Cold Message and InMail Generator
Cold messages get answered when they are short, clearly about the person and end with one small ask. Tell the generator who you are writing to and why you picked them, and you get two versions plus an optional InMail subject line, built only from what you typed.
Say who you are writing to and why them. Specific reasons get replies; generic ones get ignored.

Writing a cold message that earns a reply
- 01
Choose your mode
Sales, recruiter, job seeker or partnership. The mode sets the framing and the kind of ask.
- 02
Explain who and why them
Who they are and the specific reason you chose this person. That reason is what gets the reply.
- 03
Edit, then send it yourself
Fill any [brackets], read it out loud once, and send it as a message or InMail from LinkedIn.
Openers: generic vs specific
| Mode | Generic | Specific |
|---|---|---|
| Sales | I help companies like yours grow revenue. | Your post on onboarding churn matched what I hear from SaaS CS leaders every week. |
| Recruiter | I have an exciting opportunity for you. | Your work on Go services at Acme is close to what our platform team is hiring for. |
| Job seeker | I am looking for a job at your company. | I am applying for the Data Analyst role and your team's dashboard work is why. |
| Partnership | Let's collaborate! | Our audiences overlap: your newsletter readers ask about the onboarding problems we solve. |
Why them, why now, one ask
Open with the reason you chose this person. Add one line of context or value. Close with a single small ask they could answer in a word. Everything beyond that is optional.
Tips that work
- Do find one real detail about them before you write a word.
- Do stay within a few short sentences.
- Do make the ask easy, ideally a yes-or-no question.
- Don't send the same message to dozens of people.
- Don't open with flattery or a paragraph about yourself.
- Don't ask for 30 minutes in the first message to a stranger.
Message or InMail: a quick comparison
A regular message goes to someone you are already connected with, and it is free. InMail reaches people outside your network and needs a paid LinkedIn plan. InMail also has a subject line, which works like an email subject: short, specific and honest about what is inside.
If you can connect first, a connection request with a good note followed by a message is often the more natural route. InMail makes sense when connecting would be odd, or when you need to reach someone quickly.
The same rules apply to both. The person did not ask to hear from you, so every line has to earn its place. The generator keeps the body short enough to read in a few seconds and writes a subject line if you want one.
What each mode puts first
Sales leads with a problem the person likely has and offers a resource or a short call. Recruiter names the role and why their background fits. Job seeker names the role and asks for something small, like a quick chat or a pointer to the right person. Partnership explains where your audiences or products overlap.
In every mode the generator works only from the facts you enter. Where it needs more, it leaves a [bracket], so nothing in the message is made up about you or about them.
A first name is not personalization
"Hi Dana" is not personalization. "Your post on onboarding churn" is. Spend a minute on their profile or recent activity and use what you find in the first line. If you cannot find anything specific, that is a sign to pick someone else.
Follow up once or twice, then stop. A short follow-up that adds something new sometimes gets the reply the first message did not. If there is still nothing, move on politely. And never automate any of it. LinkedIn does not allow it, and recipients can tell.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a cold LinkedIn message be?
Short: three to five sentences. People decide quickly whether to reply, so get to the reason and the ask fast.
Do I need LinkedIn Premium to send InMail?
InMail to people outside your network requires a paid plan. To people you are connected with, you can send a regular message.
Does the generator invent details about me or them?
No. It uses only what you enter and writes [detail] where a fact is missing.
Can the tool send messages for me?
No. We never automate actions on LinkedIn. You copy the message and send it yourself.
Is what I type stored?
No. It is used only to write the messages and is not saved.
Why two versions?
Comparing two angles helps you pick the one that sounds most like you, or combine the best lines of each.
What makes a good InMail subject line?
A few words that say what the message is about, such as the role or the shared topic. Skip "Quick question" and anything that sounds like an ad.
